    * NO previous knowledge is necessary - only a willingness to experiment with irreverent regard to the rules.

    * No weighing, no measuring, no sieving, no line blends, no long recipes, no heavy brain strain, nothing boring.

    * Overnight firing with hundreds of exciting results-dry, matt, glossy, velvet, gritty, crackled, crawling, cratered, in dozens of exciting colours

    * Not only that, but an introduction to ways using all the above in simple effective ways at different temperatures.

    * A dynamic and inspiring workshop, excellent for any level, revealing a new view of creating decorative and sculptural surfaces.

INDIVIDUAL REQUIREMENTS for this workshop:

    * 20 or more bisqued clay boxes or straight side tubs EACH PERSON for melting mixtures - internal measurements 4X3inches( 100X75 mm) and 1 inch (25 mm) deep (can be roughly made for stacking on top of each other) Click here to download a pdf file

    * a spoon for measuring materials-- an old paint brush for mixing.

    * a few small cups or plastic cartons for mixing--a notebook and pencil

    * a ceramic pencil OR fine brush for labelling tests

GROUP REQUIREMENTS

      The following materials are fairly essential for active results :

      small amounts (approx one kilo-depending on number of people)

      any FRITS OR GLAZE

      Bone Ash (natural)    Magnesium Carbonate (Light)   Wood Ash

      Rutile     Feldspar     Nephelyne Syenite   Zinc Oxide

      Titanium Oxide      cryolite      Talc   

         Wollastonite      woodash (unsieved )       China Clay

       LOTS OF COLOURED CERAMIC STAINS of any kind|

      PLUS these if possible

      LithiumCarbonate     Cryolite    Spodumene    Strontiumcarbonate

      Soda ash Petalite      Volcanic Ash (or pumice) Cement Amblygonite Molochite        

Calcined Alumina     Fluorspar CopperOxide     cobalt oxide Iron oxide Tin Oxide  etc.....     

      plus commercial glazes of any kind


ALSO REQUIRED

    * A medium or small kiln that will fire quickly or automatically overnight to a lower or higher temperature.

    * Plenty of table space.a good water supply.and waste disposal

    * Dark room for several short slide sessions where additional DESIGN sessions consider the use of texture colour and glaze
